22/07/13 TSS gear up for Brighton to Paris cycling challenge
Chris Tugwell and Jason Mamoany will be undertaking a colossal challenge on 30th August in the form of a charity bike ride from Brighton to Paris. The 140-mile ride is an annual fundraiser for the Argus Appeal.
Normally the campaign would see the pair embark on a five-day journey, but this year Chris and Jason are preparing to do all 140 miles in just two. The first day will see them start at 6AM, when they will arrive in Newhaven to board a 4-hour ferry to Dieppe. From there, a long ride awaits to the hotel where they will be staying overnight. This will comprise the first 50 miles of their journey - the other 90 miles will be completed the next day upon their arrival in Paris.
It's a huge task, but preparations for the challenge are going well. Jason attends 4 spinning sessions a week in the gym and has already taken part in the London to Brighton bike ride, whilst Chris has undergone a busy fitness schedule of his own. "I cycle twice a week - last week I cycled 30 miles from Saltdean to Lancing" he reveals. "I also go for a run every Sunday and I do taekwondo, so I think preparations are coming along nicely. I'm very optimistic."
It is one of many fundraisers the Argus Appeal holds throughout the year, moving closer towards their objective of raising £20,000 a year. Chris and Jason aim to raise £1,000 for their part in the ride, a huge amount that will help the charity immeasurably in that goal. Chris is pleased with their contribution so far. "It's for a good cause. We all know what great work the Argus Appeal does for the community and it feels good to be able to contribute to that."
